He also responded to a netizen, who wrote that prices are going up everywhere.
Manzano countered that countries with better tax collections help aid the impact of increasing prices.
That may be true but countries with better tax collection rates are in a better position to help absorb the impact of these challenges. That’s your taxes working for you. https://t.co/nSSKzb3nA4

Earlier, the Department of Trade and Industry approved the increase in suggested retail price (SRP) of 82 basic necessities and prime commodities.
These include drinking water in bottles and containers, canned fish, processed and canned pork, processed and canned beef, processed milk, vinegar, soy sauce, fish sauce or patis, locally manufactured instant noodles, coffee, salt, laundry soap, detergent, candles, flour, toilet soap, and batteries.
According to DTI, “the prices of 71 out of the 82 goods were adjusted by 2% to 10%. However, it said these increases are “still less than the global price movement of raw materials.
“To illustrate, the prices of major raw materials like Tamban (for canned fish products), mechanically deboned meat (for processed meat products), buttermilk (for processed milk), and palm oil (for toilet paper and instant noodles) increased by 0.56% to 32.14%. Additionally, fuel prices went up by 28.84%.”
However, the department insisted that 136 other goods retained their SRP as listed in the previous January 27 bulletin.
Former COMELEC Commissioner Rowena Guanzon also shared her thoughts about inflation, especially LPG prices.
