The entire local entertainment industry was in shock when actress and producer, Anabelle Rama, announced at around 9:00 pm, yesterday, August 5, that award-winning actress, Cherie Gil, already passed away.

Joining the bereaved Gil family’s grief, netizens paid tribute to the late actress by reminiscing her most remarkable moments and roles on television and in film.

Cherie Gil as the iconic Menang, ANG BABAENG GALIT SA MAHIRAP in Gulong ng Palad.

“Mga walang pinag-aralan, mga walang kwenta, mga hampaslupa!” tweeted ALTStarMagic, quoting one of the actress’s many great lines from the prime time series, Gulong ng Palad.

Nikowl shared still photos featuring the actress from different films.

Cherie Gil was one of a kind. She made kontrabidas more exciting. One of the most glamorous stars to grace Philippine cinemas for sure. She exuded class and poise every time you see her. What a loss for us. Here are some of her roles from the 80s/90s/00s/10s.

“RIP Cherie Gil,” his tweet reads.

I, myself, tweeted something to remind the Filipino viewers of the late actress’s brilliance. I posted a clip from the ensemble drama, Ikaw Lamang (2014), where she singularly played the role of Miranda Hidalgo.. “I know when people talk about the brilliance of Cherie Gil, they mostly remember her iconic moments in Bituing Walang Ningning, Gulong ng Palad, or Marina. But let’s not forget how singular her performance as Señora Miranda Salazar-Hidalgo was, in Ikaw Lamang. Rest in Power,” my tweet reads.

Hyro, meanwhile, brought to netizens’ attention the TV adaptation of Carlo J Caparas classic, Pieta, where Gil played the role of Ryan Agoncillo’s mother.

“One of Cherie Gil’s best TV performances was her role as Amanda in the adaptation of Gina Marissa Tagasa and Carlo J. Caparas’s Pieta, originally played by the great Charito Solis. Cast against type, she played the role of Agoncillo’s sacrificial and selfless mother,” he said in his tweet.

AltGMA shared a clip from the film Bituing Walang Ningning, where Gil uttered the iconic line: “You’re nothing but a second-rate, trying hard, copycat!

“The most iconic kontrabida,” she captioned her tweet..
