On August 23, Julia Barretto recalled her immersion experience for her role in Expensive Candy.

At the digital media conference for Expensive Candy with the press, including LionhearTV, Barretto said she befriended a woman who works in the Red Light District of Angeles City.

“My favorite thing always to do before doing a film is immersing, so unforgettable ‘yung night namin ni Direk sa Angeles City and we were able to visit the walking street kung saan po kami nag-shoot. Tapos naghanap po kami ng pwedeng maging reference ko for Candy, na ngayon naging kaibigan ko rin, her name is Cheska.”

She then stressed that she respects the hardworking women of Angeles City’s Red Light District, especially with her immersion.

“Iba po talaga ‘yung mag-immerse ka doon sa kung saan naka-base at naka-set ‘yung kwento. So malaking bagay talaga na pumunta po kami sa walking street, napanood namin ‘yung the beautiful women there. The hardworking beautiful women, who worked there in that street, I admire them so much and I have so much respect for them.”

Admittedly, Barretto received a few tips from the women she met during her immersion regarding her portrayal of her role.

“Mayroon po akong naging mga naging kaibigan at mga nakilala noong gabing ‘yun na–madami po akong natanong, but I guess, just to protect them as well, I don’t want to divulge any information. But I did get a few tips and tricks, and a little bit of dance moves from the women there. Amazing, they’re amazing.”

She also highlighted her dance workshop with the premiere dance group G-Force.

“Napasabak po ako sa ano– I thought after ASAP tapos na akong sumayaw, pero napasabak ako sa GForce for this. So nagworkshop muna ako ng mga sexy na sayaw bago kami mag-start mag-roll.”

She even narrated her experience when she ‘tabled’ one of the women she met.

“May tinable ako, naka-disguise po kasi kami noong una, so noong tinable ko siya, hindi ko sure kung akala niyang isa pa akong babae na interesado sa kaniya, na hindi niya alam kung anong gagawin ko sa kaniya, until later on, I had to introduce myself, and kinailangan kong sabihin ‘yung intention ko of being there. Nakasama din namin siya sa taping, but I want to protect her identity.”

Julia Barretto stars in the upcoming romance movie from Viva, Expensive Candy, alongside Kapamilya actor Carlo Aquino.

Joining the two stars are Denise Esteban, Quinn Carrillo, AJ Muhlach, Ivan Padilla, Bob Jbeili, Andre Yllana, Aica Veloso, Ashley Diaz, Aivy Rodriguez, Aurora Sevilla, Marissa Sanchez, Marnie Lapus, Jobelyn Manuel, Keagan De Jesus, Francis Maguindayao, Migo Valid, R-Ji, Mo, Valfer, and Tomas.

Under the direction of Jason Paul Laxamana, Expensive Candy premieres in cinemas nationwide on September 14.
