The OPM icon joins the singing competition’s table of seasoned and award-winning judges, that includes Louie Ocampo, Ogie Alcasid, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Gary Valenciano, Erik Santos, and Jolina Magdangal.
One of OPM’s most legendary balladeers, Marco Sison, joins the Tawag Ng Tanghalan’s judging panel. Several of the industry’s finest singers have been with the show since it debuted on It’s Showtime in 2016. Ogie Alcasid, Jhong Hilario, Jugs Jugueta, and Teddy Corpuz welcomed him on the show yesterday, November 1.
Sison expressed his excitement for everything that awaits him as he begins his new role as a star searcher, recalling how he used to participate in contests himself. He revealed his favorite aspect of the show. He shared, “Nakakapanood din kasi ako lagi eh,’yung part na ayaw nila, yung part na hirap na hirap sila (judges). Kasi para sa akin, ang mga Pilipino pag dating sa kantahan, world class.”
It is expected that the ‘My Love Will See You Through’ hitmaker, as well as other icons who took part in the show, will act as the ‘punong hurado’ for the singing competition. His style was outlined as he described how he would approach the highly-dreaded task. It will be a style that is “strict” yet “considerate”.
He further explained, “Kontesero din kasi ako eh. Para sa akin, ‘yung preparation—kasi kapag sumalang ka tapos nanginginig ka, kasi ang ginaw dito, eh dapat gawan mo na ng paraan ‘yun. Kasali yan sa preparation. Kapag hindi ka prepared, siguradong talo ka.”
Tawag Ng Tanghalan’s current season is already in its final quarter. The show’s ninth grand prize winner is expected to be announced in the first quarter of 2023.
