The 61-year-old actor expressed gratitude to everyone who supported him since he began his career.
Albert Martinez must have drunk straight from the fountain of youth. I mean nearly 45 years in his career, and he remains among the most visible leading men in local showbiz, that must be the most convincing explanation for it.
More than his timeless appeal and charisma, however, the ultra-talented actor wows his audience most through his seemingly unfading vigor and commitment to delivering and perfecting his craft. Now, through the Kapamilya series, The Iron Heart, he climbs up a notch, as he portrays Priam, the mysterious but ruthless leader of the crime organization, Tatsulok.
In a one-on-one interview we had with Martinez last February 6, he shared how ecstatic he feels for being still active in showbiz, despite his age, noting the trust he has been given in mounting action scenes in shows like The Iron Heart.
“At my age, right now, I’m happy that they still trust me to do ganitong mga klaseng characters. Binibigyan pa rin ako ng mga action scenes,” he shared.
The actor credited his youthful energy to years of self-care and preparation.
“Siguro naman, because of years of preparation, years of taking care of myself, and flexibility, and once in a while learning more martial arts, and being active…physical activity, na-maintain ko na at my age, I can still be good in an action-drama series,” he told me during our two-day set visit in their shooting locations in Cebu.
Asked about how he felt that he still gets to do action scenes, he gave props to the show’s talented directors and stuntmen.
“We have very good fight directors, and before anything else, safety first. So, we rehearse a lot, make sure na walang masasaktan, make sure that it looks good.
“I’m not really a martial artist, but I’m willing to learn. So, lahat ng ginagawa namin is parang sayaw. Para siyang sayaw. Lahat ay well-choreogarphed and we follow instructions well.”
Confirmed to have received an extension on air, The Iron Heart airs on A2Z, TV5, and Kapamilya Channel on TV, Mondays through Fridays, at 8:45 PM. It also streams online via Kapamilya Online Live and iWantTFC.
