At the press conference for Martyr or Murderer? on February 9, Darryl Yap highlighted the number of content legalities he had to go through before releasing the trailer of his upcoming film.
Yap alluded to the number of legalities he had to go through with the 17 revisions of the trailer for Martyr or Murderer?
“So hindi na nadagdagan ‘yun, hanggang seventeen revisions lang ako, but lots and lots of signatures tungkol sa legality ng content and everything. So, I guess ito na ‘yung pinaka mabait na cut noong trailer, so ‘yung una kong pinasa, sabi nila hindi daw okay. So ito na ‘yung kindest.”
He then recounted the difference when he released the trailer for Maid in Malacañang compared to Martyr or Murderer?
“The difference po kasi with Maid in Malacañang, Viva and Senator Imee didn’t expect na kikita, it was just a katarandtaduhan and kalokohan from my side, ‘Gumawa na tayo ng pelikula,’ sabi ko. Tapos sabi niya, ‘Sige, game.’ Tapos noong gumagawa kami ng pelikula, hinihingi nila sa akin ‘yung trailer ng Maid in Malacañang.”
He then noted the change in the approval process for the trailer release of Martyr or Murderer?
“Tapos noong sabi ko noong hindi ko pa tapos pero six days ago ko pa natapos kasi ipapatanggal nila ‘yung scene ni Pres. Bongbong Marcos, na sinasabihan siya ng party ng party, alam ko ipapatanggal nila ‘yun, kaya hindi ko pinapanood.
“Na-traumatized na sila, so kada lagay ko ng eksena, tinitignan ng Viva kung anong eksena ‘yun. So, I passed a trailer [like] four days ago and revised it fifteen times, and the next day, I [revised] it again. It’s not that Irene or President Bongbong would have to approve it– because it’s the story of their family.”
Yap asserted how he pushes for his creative license to provide a trailer that Filipino viewers deserve.
“The last say would be with Manang Imee, I guess. Kasi, kahit super okay na kay Boss Vincent and kay Boss Vic, the final say would be with Senator Imee. And even this trailer nga is not full-heartedly approved by the Senator.
“I just pushed for my creative license and for– because I wrote and directed the movie. So I said, this is the trailer that I want–this is the trailer that my followers and the Filipino people deserves–a trailer without pretention, a trailer that is really–really Filipino, straight to the point.”
