The Starstruck alumnus plays the cynical and indifferent Mark Gordon in the highly anticipated Filipino live-action TV adaptation of the anime classic Voltes V.
Promising Kapuso heartthrob, Radson Flores, shared that pulling off his role in Voltes V: Legacy, did not come easy, as the upcoming series, marks his first time doing a teleserye.
The 23-year-old star notably was fresh from his StarStruck stint in 2019, when he got listed as one of the five leads of the live-action adaptation of Voltes V.
“Ako po ang second-in-command sa Voltes team. Pina-pilot ko po ang Volt bomber,” he told the press during a GMA Regional TV press conference in Iloilo, on January 21.
“Ako po ‘yung character na aloof and indifferent sa kanilang apat, kaya medyo ano ako, masungit. May pagka-inggit kasi si Mark sa kanila na buhay pa ang mga parents. he added, sharing more details about his exciting role.
“Masasabi ko na si Mark Gordon, siya ang nagbabalance ng emotions sa team.Kumbaga, voice of reason siya, very logical and—pero, deep inside naman, emotional pa rin naman siya. May attachment pa rin siya sa mga co-pilots niya.”
As a preparation for his challenging character, Flores shared that he had to undergo training for him to meet the demands of Mark Gordon.
“Nag-aral po ako ng equestrian. May lessons po ako sa horse backriding, kasi si Mark Gordon kilala bilang a really good horse rider. Sa acting part naman po, bukod sa acting classes na pinoprovide ng Sparkle, nag-aral din po ako ng mga characters na medyo similar sa character ni Mark Gordon,” he told the press, citing Star Trek’s Spock as among the popular characters he studied.
The young star admitted that he had trouble connecting with the rest of the cast first, but shared that he nevertheless became friends with all of them. “Yung sa struggles ko naman ‘po is, kaba po, kasi ito po ‘yung first serye ko po, and kinakabahan pa po kasi noon hindi ko pa sila masyadong ka-close at kilala, parang nahihiya ako.”
Flores believes that his character will be of help to viewers who may be, in one way or another, similar to him, noting how the character had mental health issues.
“Sana maraming maka-relate sa kanya na mga taong feeling nila indifferent sila sa society, na-iisolate nila ang sarili nila, or may pinagdadaanan silang mental health issue, or may depression, which is very similar kay Mark Gordon. Sana makita nila sa show na hindi sila nag-iisa at maraming tumulong sa kanila,” he said.
