Several ABS-CBN and GMA Network programs have made it to the 2023 New York Festivals TV and Film Awards shortlist.
Announced yesterday, March 16, the Philippines earned 10 nominations, one from ABS-CBN and nine from GMA Network.
Holding the banner for ABS-CBN is Kabayan Noli De Castro’s KBYN: Kaagapay ng Bayan, which earned a nomination for “Best Public Affairs Program”.
GMA Network, on the other hand, collected nine nominations, including eight documentaries and one entertainment program.
Top-rated Kapuso portal fantasy series ‘Maria Clara at Ibarra’ bagged the “Best Drama” nomination. Kapuso’s travel documentary ‘Born To Be Wild’, meanwhile, was nominated for “Best Documentary: Environment and Ecology.”
‘Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho’, on the other hand, got two nominations: one for “Best Documentary: Human Concerns” for its ‘Eleven’ episode and another for “Best Documentary: Health/Medical Information” for its ‘Wounds of Woes’ episode.
The ‘Atom Araullo Special’ also bagged two nominations: “Best Documentary: Social Issues” for the ‘Eye in the Dark’ episode and “Best Documentary: Human Concerns” for ‘The Missing’ episode.
I-Witness, Reporter’s Notebook, and Stand for Truth earned one nomination each.
I-Witness’ Black Soldier Fly episode earned a nomination for “Best Documentary: Science & Technology”, Reporter’s Notebook Our School is Sinking got nominated for “Best Documentary: Community Portraits” and Stand for Truth’s Runaway Child Brides’ episode for “Best Documentary: Cultural Issues.”
The winners for this year will be announced during the New York Festivals 2023 Storytellers Gala virtual event which will take place on April 18.
