The top rating Kapamilya action-drama ended openly, alluding to a possible third season in the future.
As his superiors at the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) would say after every successful mission, it’s undeniably a ‘mission accomplished’ for Richard Gutierrez’s The Iron Heart. After 11 months of showcasing top caliber action on the small screen, the Kapamilya action-drama undoubtedly delivered something local audiences have never seen before. As far as the local action genre is concerned, it is hard to refute The Iron Heart has set the bar high and upped the ante for the Filipino action entertainment.
“And ‘yun nga from the [very] beginning, ang vision namin dito is to change the landscape of action in the Philippines. ‘Yun talaga ‘yung vision namin from the start. Like what Direk said, we had a lot of constraints, time, budget, everything.” said Gutierrez in the series’ finale press conference, last September 28. Looking back and realizing how the series truly delivered top notch and sophisticated action scenes on Philippine television, one can confidently say that such goal Gutierrez and the whole production team set their eyes and mind on, was completely met.
That success is reflected by the resounding victory pulled off by the series in the ratings game, during its finale week. According to the data presented by firm, Nielsen Philippines, The Iron Heart averaged 8.5 in people ratings, from Monday, October 9 to Friday, October 13, peaking at 9.0 on Tuesday, October 10. In comparison, its Kapuso counterpart, Love Before Sunrise, managed to post a 7.3 total people rating and a 7.8 aggregated people rating (including delayed telecast). The Iron Heart notably claimed victory on its timeslot, throughout its finale week.
As far as online concurrent viewership is concerned, The Iron Heart, remained unrivaled, as it consistently drew high concurrent views. On Friday, October 13, it logged a total of 437,535 peak live concurrent viewers on Kapamily Online Live.
But could this kick ass action-drama series return for a new season? After all, it is that kind of dramas that still works and excites audiences even after multiple extensions; you just have to introduce new villains and story arcs to bring new twists to the central character’s adventures. Judging how the finale ended, it seems such may be the case.
