On December 3, Asia’s Multimedia Star and Kapuso actor Alden Richards admitted that he wanted to leave showbiz when he went through depression.

At the media conference for ‘Family of Two,’ which LionhearTV covered, Richards recounted that he almost left showbiz when he felt he lacked the motivation to continue his career.

He also disclosed he felt an immense emotion of self-pity while he was going through his depression.

“Ganon naman minsan, kapag depressed po tayo, minsan we end up feeling ‘yung self pity. Na napupunta tayo sa ganong part ng buhay natin. And for the first time after a decade po ng buhay ko, being part of– nakakaramdam po ako ng ano, pero good thing naman po, I was able to get over that and hindi po ako napunta doon sa, hindi ako nagbisyo, or nagdroga.”

He then cited how he went through a dark stage of his life before he got into filming his movies ‘Five Break Ups and a Romance,’ and ‘Family of Two.’

Richards noted how working with his co-actor Mega Star Sharon Cuneta and the cast of the Metro Manila Film Festival 2023 entry helped him.

Nangyari po kasi ‘yung filming ng Five Break Ups and a Family of Two po, medyo nasa dark stage din ako ng buhay ko doon. And doon ko rin natutunan na in order for someone who’s broken to recover, kailangan kasama niya rin isang broken rin na someone.

So ‘yun ‘yung naging stepping stone namin na we’re both going through a tough time– and we made the set a ‘safe haven,’ as a safe space. Sobrang grateful po ako sa Five Break Ups and a Romance and this film na when I felt worthless na parang hindi na ako kailangan sa industry.

As for their movie, ‘Family of Two’ stars Alden Richards and Sharon Cuneta.

The cast also features Miles Ocampo, Jackie Lou Blanco, Tonton Gutierrez, and Pepe Herrera.

Under the direction of Nuel Naval and the screenplay of Mel Del Rosario, ‘Family of Two’ opens in cinemas on December 25 during the MMFF 2023, with a premiere night on December 14.
