Actor Alden Richards recently addressed queries from the media regarding his stance on the ongoing criticism surrounding the prevalent love team system in the country.
This discussion took place during the media conference for his latest film, ‘A Family of Two,’ a collaboration with Sharon Cuneta slated for the 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival.
In response to questions about the love team concept, Alden acknowledged its deeply ingrained status in Philippine showbiz, considering it a cultural belief within the industry.
He underscored its role as a traditional launching pad for aspiring actors and actresses, especially during the ongoing transition in content creation within the industry.
Having been part of several love teams throughout his illustrious career, Alden expressed gratitude for the opportunities and experiences the concept has provided.
“Siguro in a way, ‘yung identity mo as your unique self is always affiliated with another person and vice versa. So, it’s up to the actor, it’s up to the celebrity how he or she would want to move forward in his or her career in show business.”
He clarified that being associated with a love team does not necessarily hinder the development of an individual’s distinct identity in the entertainment industry.
“Ako po kasi, of course, I’ve been a product of love teams and I’m not ashamed [of that]. Hindi ko po ikinakahiya na marami po ako naka-love team before and hindi ko po ikinakahiya na doon ako nagsimula. I’m very much thankful for the ‘love team’ concept here in the Philippines,” he said.
As he celebrates his 13th anniversary in the industry, Alden shared valuable insights into his evolving career trajectory, emphasizing a positive outlook on the love team concept. He acknowledged minimal drawbacks while highlighting the numerous benefits derived from his experiences within love teams.
The actor confidently stated that he is not ashamed of his love team history, recognizing its pivotal role in shaping his current identity.
Alden, while gradually exploring diverse facets of the entertainment industry, remains rooted in the lessons learned from his love team era. He stressed the enduring impact of these experiences on his current career decisions.
The actor is set to collaborate with Heaven Paralejo in his upcoming film, and viewers can anticipate his appearance in the Kapuso series ‘Pulang Araw’ next year, where he will be paired with Sanya Lopez, alongside breakout love team Barbie Forteza and David Licauco.
