Actress and Binibining Pilipinas Tourism 2013 titleholder Cindy Miranda recently opened up about a supernatural presence she believes has been watching over her for years.
Miranda speculates that this ‘white lady’ could be her ‘Kuman Thong,’ a household divinity in Thai folk religion believed to bring good luck and fortune.
Miranda shared that while she has never personally seen the ‘white lady,’ numerous visitors to her condominium have reported encountering a ghostly figure resembling her.
“Marami nakakita na kamukha ko. Naka white, andoon palagi. Naka-white. Pero never ko pa po nakita. Lucky charm ko siya. Siya Kuman Thong ko. Amulet ko. Never ako natakot. Never ako natakot ma-isa. Wala ako kasama sa condo, college pa lang ako. Baka siya nagbabantay sa akin, kaya ako mag-isa,” Miranda shared during a press conference for Xian Lim’s upcoming film ‘Kuman Thong,’ in which she stars.
Recounting experiences from friends and her ex-boyfriend, who claims to have a third eye, Miranda said, “I have a friend who has a third eye. My ex-boyfriend even drew it. I didn’t believe him. Also ‘yun taga-bantay ng condo, sinabi sa’kin akala ako nakita niya. Pero naka-white. Several other friends also said it.”
While Miranda isn’t sure if the ‘white lady’ follows her to work or remains in her home, she believes the presence is benign and protective. “I am not sure if she follows me to work or sa bahay lang. Doon siya nakita ng friends ko and ex-boyfriend. She is harmless. Tingin ko kaya sobrang tapang ko kasi may kasama ako,” she added.
Miranda also revealed a peculiar habit from her college days where she would wake up at exactly 3 a.m. “Noong college aka, eksaktong alas-tres, eksakto, Walang mintes, nagigising ako. Punta na lang ako CR, deadma. Hindi ko tatakutin sarili ko kasi mag-isa ako. Pipilitin ko makabalik sa tulog. Pero dahil lagi ako nag-ipsa inaalis ko są mind ko takot. It’s just in my head,” she explained.

The film ‘Kuman Thong,’ co-written by Xian Lim and his girlfriend Iris Lee, features a mix of Filipino and Thai actors, including Max Nattapol Diloknawarit, Jariya Therakaosal, Emman Esquivel, and Althea Ruedas. Set and filmed in Thailand, the horror film follows Clara (Miranda) as she travels with her daughter Katie (Ruedas) to seek the blessing of Namfon (Jariya), the mother of her fiancé Sai Chon (Max). Namfon is hesitant about her son moving to the Philippines, especially since Clara is still grieving the loss of her son, Isaac (Emman).
Miranda emphasized that ‘Kuman Thong’ is not a typical horror film. “It is not your typical horror film. It’s different. It isn’t just jump scares. When I read the script I thought ‘Is this really horror.’ It is also heavy on drama and the story is good,” she said.
