On August 23, 2024, Gorgy Rula interviewed director Joel Lamangan and actor Jim Pebanco at French Baker in Cash n’ Carry, Makati City. The interview was published the following day on PEP Troika. However, on the evening of August 25, Ahron Villena made headlines with allegations of exploitation by an unnamed director from his early career.
The controversy intensified on August 26, when a screenshot purportedly from Joel Lamangan’s verified account emerged online. The post contained harsh comments regarding Villena’s claims, with accusations that Villena sought out abusive situations and personal attacks against him. The authenticity of the post was quickly questioned.
Line producer Dennis Evangelista promptly responded, confirming that the comments did not come from the real Joel Lamangan. Evangelista issued a statement on Facebook addressing the issue:
“Hindi to galing kay direk Joel Lamangan. May poser si Direk Joel Lamangan na nagpapanggap na siya, kumukuha ng datung sa mga gustong mag artista at pinag brief online. Tungkol sa pahayag ng artista na allegedly ay pinatatamaan ang Sikat na direktör na siya sexually harassed — walang pahayag o pagpatol na sinasabi si direk Joel Lamangan. Hindi ganitong mag salita at hindi niya legit na acct etong naka post na to. Hindi rin niya ugaling manlait ng tao. Sa kasalukuyan ay busy si direk Lamangan kaya wala siyang panahon pumatol sa mga ganitong isyu.”
Evangelista emphasized that the real Joel Lamangan is focused on his work and does not engage in such negative behavior or controversies.
Director Joel Lamangan has declined to comment on Villena’s allegations or the fake post. He has chosen not to engage with the situation further and has stated that he is unaware of the details surrounding Villena’s personal issues.
