Philippine Superstar Nora Aunor has opened up about the devastating reason behind her vocal damage, which has kept her from singing for years.
In an emotional interview with Maricel Soriano on her vlog, Aunor shared the distressing details of how she lost her voice.
Aunor recounted an incident that occurred while she was in the United States. She was offered an opportunity to travel to Japan to endorse a beauty product.
After arriving in Japan, she was asked to lie down and rest, and upon waking, she discovered that she had lost her voice.
“Pagdating ko du’n, pinahiga ako, pinatulog. Paggising ko, wala na akong boses. Iyon ang totoong nangyari du’n,” Aunor explained.
Despite pursuing legal action against those she believed were responsible, Aunor’s voice has never fully recovered. She revealed that the damage was deep but did not involve her vocal cords directly. “Ang sabi nu’ng doktor kasi nu’n, ‘yung vocal cord hindi naman tinamaan. Kaya lang malalim ‘yung tinamaan sa akin. Iyon ‘yung dapat naoperahan nu’n,” she added.
The veteran actress expressed her deep sorrow over her inability to sing, a passion that played a crucial role in her career and supported her family. “Pinaka-love ko talaga ‘yung pag-awit. Kung hindi dahil sa pagkanta ay hindi ako makakatulong sa pamilya at hindi rin ako makikilala ng mga tao. Kaya nu’ng masira ‘yung boses ko, sinira nila eh, para bang sinadya, kaya hanggang ngayon hindi ako nakakakanta,” Aunor said.
Despite these challenges, Nora Aunor remains a prominent figure in the entertainment industry. In 2022, she was honored as a National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts, solidifying her status as a legendary performer.
Although she has faced personal and health struggles, Aunor continues to work on new projects and has reconciled with her family, demonstrating her resilience and dedication to her craft.
