Despite being a newcomer to politics, Mahra Tamondong—better known as “Super Marah”—is bravely stepping into the race for mayor of Manila in the upcoming May 2025 mid-term elections.
Her competition includes incumbent mayor Honey Lacuna and well-known figures like Isko Moreno, Raymond Bagatsing, and Sam Verzosa.
During our media interview including LionhearTV on November 23, 2024, at Racks in Paseo de Magallanes in Pasay City, Mahra, 47, shared her thoughts on the candidates she will face in the mayoral race.
According to her, she does not have a personal connection with Lacuna, Bagatsing, or Moreno, and she’s only had the chance to meet them at public events.
“Nakasama ko si Raymond Bagatsing noong nakaraang eleksyon nang tumakbo siya bilang Vice Mayor sa partido ni Atty. Alex Lopez. Hindi naman kami magkalaban. Hindi ko lang inaakalang tatakbo ulit siya. Si Isko, mga once or twice ko lang po siya na-encounter through common friends, pero noong time na ‘yon, Vice Mayor pa siya, wala talagang personal na pagkakilanlan,” Mahra explained.
Although she’s crossed paths with Honey Lacuna on a few occasions, Mahra emphasized that they never had a chance to talk. “Actually, naencounter ko siya recently lang, nang naimbitahan ako sa isang organization. Nagkasabay kami, so dun lang ang first, at saka nung nag-Buling-Buling ako, naging Hermana Mayor ako ng Pandacan. Hindi kami nagkausap kasi hindi naman niya ako kinausap,” she added.

Despite the formidable names in the race, Mahra’s candidacy stands out as she aims to serve the people of Manila. This will be her second attempt at political office, after running for councilor in Manila’s 5th district in the May 2022 elections, though she was not successful.
When asked about her educational background, Mahra shared that she is a college graduate from St. Mary’s Academy and La Concordia College, where she took up Management. Before delving into politics, she ran her own real estate business and is also a mother of twins.
While Mahra admitted she has no direct political experience, she is eager to learn and work hard for the people of Manila. Mahra’s run for mayor represents a bold step for someone without the same political pedigree as her competitors, but it is a testament to her courage and commitment to public service.
