Veteran broadcaster Arnold Clavio made a triumphant return to GMA Network’s ‘Unang Hirit’ just two months after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke in June.
Despite his doctors’ recommendation for six months of rehabilitation, Clavio felt that resuming his role on the morning show would play a significant part in his recovery.
In a report by Nelson Canlas for ’24 Oras,’ Clavio shared his decision to cut his rehabilitation short:
“Ginawa kong three months lang. Tinawagan ko sila, gusto ko nang bumalik. Ta’s August, June nangyari ‘to, August. Parang iba ‘yung itutulong niyang energy sa akin para bumalik ‘yung dating ako,” he said.
While back on the air, Clavio admitted that he is not yet fully recovered.
“Talagang may problem ako sa mga steps, mga stairs kaya lagi akong dikit sa wall,” he added.
The journalist has been undergoing physical therapy to regain his strength and improve his mobility. A hemorrhagic stroke, which occurs when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures or leaks, can cause bleeding inside the brain and is often attributed to factors such as head injuries or weakened artery walls.
Clavio’s return coincides with a significant milestone for ‘Unang Hirit,’ which is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary this December. The morning show is the country’s longest-running program of its kind, airing weekdays at 5:30 a.m.
He continues to co-host alongside Lyn Ching, Susan Enriquez, Suzi Entrata-Abrera, Shaira Diaz, Atty. Gabby Concepcion, Anjo Pertierra, Chef JR Royol, and Kaloy Tingcungco.
Clavio’s decision to return to work demonstrates his dedication to his craft and his belief in the therapeutic power of routine. His story serves as an inspiration, highlighting the importance of resilience and determination in the face of health challenges.
