Actress-comedienne Rufa Mae Quinto underwent a medical check-up at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) after surrendering on January 8 due to a case linked to an alleged investment scam.
According to Quinto’s legal counsel, Atty. Mary Louise Reyes, the actress experienced nausea and dizziness, prompting immediate medical attention.
“This morning, panay siya suka. Siguro –I don’t know if it’s jet lag, or siyempre kahit alam mong inosente ka, pagdadaanan mo ‘yung ganitong sitwasyon,” Reyes explained in an interview.
Quinto appeared at the Pasay Regional Trial Court to post bail of ₱1.7 million, but the transaction was delayed due to the court’s office closure. Reyes assured that her team is finalizing the bail process today and has filed an urgent motion for reinvestigation of the case.
“My client is a victim kasi nga siya rin po mismo, hindi siya nabayaran pa, which is aasikasuhin ko rin after this case. Focus muna kami, one step at a time,” Reyes added.
The actress’s legal team insists that she is also a victim, revealing that the company involved, Dermacare, still owes her payment for her endorsement services.
“Tapusin muna namin itong case and then, aasikasuhin na namin ‘yan –‘yung mga hindi pagbayad sa kanya ng Dermacare,” Reyes said.
Quinto flew from San Francisco, California, and arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) early Monday. She immediately surrendered to the NBI upon arrival.
The case against Quinto involves alleged violations of the Securities Regulation Code (Republic Act No. 8799), which mandates that securities such as shares and investments cannot be sold without proper registration and approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
TV host Boy Abunda, who previously confirmed the arrest warrants issued against Quinto and fellow celebrity Neri Miranda in December, called the incidents a “wake-up call” for the entertainment industry to practice caution in business dealings.
Miranda was earlier detained at the Pasay City Jail over the same allegations involving Dermacare.
