As ‘Lumuhod Ka sa Lupa’ nears its explosive finale, rising actor Kiko Estrada is not only drawing praise for his gripping performance—but is also being playfully eyed by veteran actor Gardo Versoza as the possible next ‘Machete’.
Versoza, who famously brought the iconic, sensual character to life in the ’90s, made the teasing endorsement during the series’ recent farewell press conference, where he lauded Kiko for his talent, sex appeal, and fiery dedication to the craft.
“Napaglipasan na ako,” Gardo quipped. “I’m passing the blessing to Kiko.”
The comment sparked buzz among fans and media alike, especially as Gardo noted similarities between himself and Kiko—both self-confessed mama’s boys with a strong screen presence. He added that while his time as Machete has passed, Kiko has the physicality, intensity, and charm to bring the role back to life for a new generation.
For his part, Kiko responded with humility, saying, “Para sa akin, isa lang ang Machete, at si Gardo Versoza lang ‘yon.” But the idea of reprising such an iconic role wasn’t completely dismissed—especially as Versoza pointed out that TV5 could be the platform to revive the legendary character.
Currently headlining ‘Lumuhod Ka sa Lupa’ as Norman dela Cruz, Kiko has proven he can carry an action-drama series with both emotional depth and physical command. Described by co-stars as a “fireball” and a complete package, Estrada’s star continues to rise—and so does the speculation about a full-circle Machete reboot.
Is the new generation ready for a modern-day ‘Machete’? If the buzz around Kiko is any indication, fans are more than ready to see him swing into the role.
