GMA Network’s news programs topped the ratings charts during the 2025 midterm elections, according to the latest Nielsen NUTAM People survey.
Flagship newscast ’24 Oras’ and GMA’s special election coverage ‘Eleksyon 2025’ led their respective primetime slots, reaffirming the network’s stronghold on news programming.
On election day, Monday, May 12, 24 Oras scored a dominant 12.9% rating, making it the highest-rated program of the day. This rating outperformed the usually top-rated ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,’ which registered 8.6% ratings.
Other primetime newscasts maintained their typical performance with ABS-CBN’s ‘TV Patrol’ garnering 2.7%, TV5’s election coverage ‘Bilang Pilipino’ posting 2.6%, and ‘Frontline’ earning 2.0%.
In the second primetime slot, GMA’s ‘Eleksyon 2025’ continued its lead with a 6.8% rating, edging out ‘Incognito,’ which scored 6.6%. ABS-CBN’s ‘Halalan 2025,’ coverage which aired in a late-night slot, managed a modest 0.4%.
GMA also dominated the pre-primetime slot, with its 5:00 PM ‘Eleksyon 2025’ broadcast earning an 8.2% rating—significantly ahead of ‘TV Patrol Express’ (0.8%) and ‘Bilang Pilipino’ (0.7%).
The strong showing of GMA’s election coverage highlights the public’s continued interest in reliable and comprehensive news programming, especially during major national events. Despite shifts in the media landscape, election coverage remains a powerful draw for viewers, echoing the trend from previous years when competition was fiercer and ABS-CBN was still a major broadcast force.
