Veteran showbiz columnist Cristy Fermin expressed admiration for actor Romnick Sarmenta over his recent political commentary.
In the June 9 episode of ‘Cristy Ferminute’, Cristy and her co-host Romel Chika discussed Romnick’s post on X (formerly Twitter), where he questioned Senate President Chiz Escudero amid talks of a potential impeachment trial involving Vice President Sara Duterte.
Romnick wrote: “Is he serving for the benefit of the people? Or for those he chooses to prioritize and serve?
Or does he think himself above the people?”
Cristy Fermin lauded the actor for freely expressing his views: “I’m very impressed with Romnick Sarmenta. Because whatever he feels, whatever he believes in—each of us really should express our opinions.”
She added: “Right or wrong, that’s his opinion. We all have the right to share our opinion. That’s free.”
Her co-host Romel Chika agreed, saying: “Correct. This is what the role of an artist should be—someone who speaks up to open people’s eyes.”
Romnick Sarmenta has long been vocal about political issues. During the 2022 elections, he openly supported the presidential bid of former Vice President Leni Robredo and her running mate Atty. Kiko Pangilinan.
