Actress Kazel Kinouchi is gearing up for one of her most dramatic roles yet as Betsy Morales in ‘My Father’s Wife’, GMA Network’s newest afternoon drama premiering this June 23.
Alongside Kylie Padilla and Gabby Concepcion, Kazel takes on a character that will stir emotions and rivalries in the explosive new teleserye.
During the GMA Afternoon Prime Grand Media Day on June 16, Kazel spoke candidly to the press about her experience working on the series and the intensity of her scenes with co-star Kylie Padilla.
“Meron, hindi naman mawawala ‘yun,” she admitted when asked if she had hesitations during their dramatic confrontations. “Sabi nga ni Direk, nung una meron kaming scene na parang hindi dumampi [yung sampal]. May sakitan, pero siyempre ayoko saktan si Kylie. Parang [sabi ni Direk], ‘sige pa! more pa!’”
Kylie, seated beside her during the event, backed up Kazel’s story, noting their off-cam rapport helped them push through challenging moments. “’Pag sinabi naman ni Direk na more pa, ibibigay naman namin. Wala namang personalan ‘yun, kasi nagkaroon na kami ng foundation outside of the character, empathy to each other,” she said.
The series tells the story of two childhood friends—Gina Rodriguez (Kylie Padilla) and Betsy Morales (Kazel Kinouchi)—whose bond is broken by jealousy and personal ambition. The tension escalates when Betsy ends up marrying Gina’s father, Robert Rodriguez (Gabby Concepcion), turning their once innocent friendship into a bitter rivalry.
Kazel also expressed her excitement and honor working with veteran actor Gabby Concepcion. “He is very light, very easy to work with. He wouldn’t make you feel like, ‘Oh! I’m Gabby Concepcion!’ He’s very generous and supportive,” she shared.
Also starring Jak Roberto, Arlene Muhlach, Snooky Serna, and Andre Paras, My Father’s Wife is directed by Aya Topacio.
Catch the premiere of ‘My Father’s Wife’ on June 23, right after It’s Showtime.
