Actress Kylie Padilla has opened up about her personal struggles whenever she sees her father, Senator Robin Padilla, being criticized in public, particularly over his political stance.
“Yes, I get offended. Siyempre tatay ko ‘yon. Before he became a politician, he’s my dad first,” Kylie shared during interview with the media after the mediacon. “Siyempre, I do feel for my dad!”
Kylie said that she regularly checks on her father amid the intense political climate. “Kaya ‘pag nagkikita kami, sinasabi ko sa kanya, ‘Pa, kumusta ka? Kaya mo pa ba? Is there anything you need?’” she recounted.
She also noted how deeply involved her father is in politics. “Ang tatay ko kasi, magaling mag-focus sa isang bagay, eh. Pero kaming family niya, naapektuhan talaga kami. Pero sabi niya, kaya pa naman niya. Nakikita naman namin na game pa naman siya sa laro ng politika.”
However, Kylie clarified that she doesn’t always agree with her father’s political views. “Do I agree? I don’t agree in everything. But I know my dad, kilala ko siya kung saan siya nanggagaling. And I’m sure naman, he knows himself. Kung ano ang pinaglalaban niya.”
Aside from dealing with public scrutiny, Kylie is also busy returning to television via the GMA Afternoon Prime drama ‘My Father’s Wife’, premiering June 23. She stars alongside Kazel Kinouchi in a drama-filled series that pits two childhood friends—now bitter rivals—against each other after one marries the other’s father.
In preparation for their intense confrontations, Kylie and Kazel even requested a private acting workshop. “Pero sa taping namin, sa scene namin, I don’t see her as Kazel. Kumbaga, ‘yung character niya ang nakikita ko,” Kylie explained. “Pero nagka-cut din naman agad after ng matitinding scene. Kasi kawawa naman. Hahaha! Lalo na ako, kawawa kay Kazel!”
Directed by Aya Topacio and Dominic Zapata, ‘My Father’s Wife’ also stars Gabby Concepcion, Jak Roberto, Snooky Serna, Arlene Muhlach, and Andre Paras.
