On Monday, June 23, GMA Network introduced its newest afternoon drama, ‘My Father’s Wife (MFW),’ to its Afternoon Prime lineup.
Headlined by Gabby Concepcion and Kylie Padilla, alongside Kazel Kinouchi and Jak Roberto, the series however, received a somewhat lukewarm reception in terms of viewership during its debut.
According to the NUTAM People’s survey, ‘My Father’s Wife’ premiered with a rating of 5.7 percent, falling short compared to its predecessor ‘Prinsesa ng City Jail (PNCJ),’ which opened with 7.2 percent, a 1.5 percentage point difference. Even PNCJ’s finale on June 21 outperformed MFW’s pilot, scoring 7.0 percent, still 1.3 points higher.
Despite the underwhelming start, MFW wasn’t alone as other afternoon programs also posted relatively low numbers.
“It’s Showtime” garnered 5.3 percent, slightly trailing MFW, while ‘E.A.T. Bulaga’ lagged further behind at 3.2 percent. Meanwhile, ‘Mommy Dearest’ and ‘Binibining Marikit’ both recorded 6.6 percent, only marginally ahead.
The standout performer of the day meanwhile was GMA’s game show ‘Family Feud,’ which climbed to 7.7 percent, improving by 0.5 points from its Friday, June 20 rating of 7.2 percent.
Directed by Aya Topacio and Dominic Zapata, ‘My Father’s Wife’ is about the complicated friendship between Gina (Kylie Padilla) and Betsy (Kazel Kinouchi), which takes a dramatic turn when Betsy marries Gina’s father, Robert (Gabby Concepcion). The ensemble cast also includes Maureen Larrazabal, Sue Prado, Andre Paras, Arlene Muhlach, Caitlyn Stave, and Shan Vesagas and features a special appearance by Snooky Serna.
My Father’s Wife airs weekdays at 2:30 PM on GMA Network, following It’s Showtime.
