TELUS Digital Philippines raises Php 1.8 million for World Vision and DepEd’s literacy program

TELUS Digital Philippines, a leader in AI-powered customer experience and business process solutions, is reinforcing its commitment to education and community development with a donation of Php 1,825,000 to World Vision’s Abutin Na10 fund raising campaign. The initiative aims to bridge educational gaps and promote literacy among remote and underserved students and teachers in the country through World Vision’s Brigada Pagbasa program.

The funds were raised through generous contributions from more than 5,200 TELUS Digital Philippines team members who supported the cause throughout February and March 2025. The campaign culminated in the #RaceForLiteracy Fun Run in Manila on April 27 and in Iloilo on May 4. The events drew a combined participation of 2,600 runners, including team members, families and friends who ran for fitness and a future where every child has access to quality education.

The donation will be used to print and distribute over 8,000 learning modules and to support World Vision’s Brigada Pagbasa, a reading remediation program that helps children improve their reading and comprehension skills. Since the partnership began in 2021, TELUS Digital Philippines has raised Php7.7 million for Abutin Na10, benefiting thousands of learners across underserved communities.

“Our partnership with World Vision reflects our deep-rooted belief in building a better future through education,” said Phoebe Carrera, Corporate Social Responsibility Senior Manager for Asia-Pacific at TELUS Digital Philippines. “Through Abutin Na10 and Brigada Pagbasa, we’re making long-term, meaningful investments in communities that need it most. This is a great example of our philosophy to ‘#GiveWhereWeLive’ in action

According to Philippine Statistics Authority’s 2024 Functional Literacy, Education, and Mass Media Survey, only 70.8% of Filipinos aged 10 to 64 are functionally literate—a sharp decline from 91.6% in 2019. In addition, a World Bank study found that 9 in 10 Filipino children around the age of 10 struggle to read and understand basic texts. World Vision’s Abutin Na10 campaign directly addresses these challenges by targeting “last-mile schools”, which are typically located in remote, off-grid areas with limited infrastructure and access to resources.

“Volunteering for Brigada Pagbasa reminded me that even just a few hours of our time can create a lifetime of impact,” shared Leah Rachel Fradejas, a TELUS Digital Philippines team member and volunteer teacher. “Seeing students gain confidence in their reading is incredibly fulfilling. It’s why we keep showing up every Saturday.”

“This campaign shows that small acts of generosity, when united, can drive transformational change,” said Geomel Jetonzo, Brigada Pagbasa Program Director. “The support from TELUS Digital Philippines has enabled us to reach children who would otherwise be left behind.”

Beyond this campaign, TELUS Digital Philippines has contributed to education through initiatives such as Brigada Eskwela and the donation of 135 desktops and laptops to public schools via the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines’ Byte the Gap program.

From volunteering in classrooms to providing essential learning tools, TELUS Digital Philippines continues to empower Filipino learners, ensuring they are equipped for today and ready for the future.
