Chloe Anjeleigh San Jose, more popularly known as Chloe SJ, is making a name for herself in the music industry—separate from the spotlight of her boyfriend, two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo.
Now signed under StarPop, a division of ABS-CBN Music, Chloe recently launched her debut extended play (EP) titled “Chloe Anjeleigh… For Real” at Noctos Music Bar in Quezon City last June 24. The launch drew an enthusiastic crowd of fans, friends, family, and of course, Carlos, who watched proudly as Chloe performed songs from her seven-track album.
Chloe, who first gained attention for her viral cover of ‘Aking Pagmamahal,’ admitted she was overwhelmed by the support.
“I just felt so overwhelmed. Like I keep saying kanina pa earlier sa mga interviews ko, na I wasn’t looking at the tables with familiar faces, kasi parang I’m gonna cry on the spot. Pero the show must go on. Just overwhelmed, but good nervous. I was just so excited. Had fun, enjoyed the moments,” she shared.
Her debut EP includes the tracks ‘FR FR,’ ‘Nonchalant,’ ‘Iyo,’ ‘Something Right,’ ‘Tanim,’ ‘Dulo ng Bahaghari,’ and ‘Shush.’ Each song explores themes of love and authenticity, with Chloe blending genres to showcase her vocal range and personal growth as an artist.
Among the seven songs, Chloe highlighted ‘Iyo’ as a particularly meaningful track, dedicating it to Carlos Yulo, who was present during the performance.
“He said, ‘Mahal, it’s really beautiful.’ Like, there’s no stopping any of the songs,” she said with a smile.
Another standout for Chloe is ‘Dulo ng Bahaghari,’ composed by StarPop head Rox B. Santos. Chloe instantly connected with the track, saying: “When I first heard it, I was like, ‘Eto, this is it.’ Parang ito ‘yung genre na people knew me from—like when I was doing covers back then. Sabi ko, ‘This is it.’ Parang like R&B-ish, tapos pwedeng i-guitar, acoustic, ganyan. So I was like, ‘This is it. I love this one. This one, please.’”
As a nod to her beginnings, Chloe incorporated a rap verse from ‘Aking Pagmamahal’ into the song, blending the familiar with the fresh: “It just came about, then it happened naturally. And yeah, we were able to add ‘Sa Aking Pagmamahal’ naturally to ‘Dulo ng Bahaghari.’”
Despite the public perception linking her primarily to her relationship with Yulo—and speculations that her involvement was a source of strain between Carlos and his family—Chloe is determined to stand on her own as an artist.
“I don’t want to put that pressure sa’kin. Because if I put that pressure sa’kin, parang the fun will be taken away—the enjoyment, and the happy vibe ng ginagawa natin together, the music and the performances. Parang when I put that pressure on, that’s gonna tear me down. Like, I’m the only one who’s gonna tear me down. Let’s keep it real, authentic, and fun,” she said.
With the success of her launch concert and growing recognition for her music, Chloe San Jose is proving that she’s more than just an Olympian’s girlfriend—she’s a rising artist with her own voice, her own sound, and a clear passion for music.
Chloe was also recently seen performing at the ‘Forever Fyang’ concert of ‘Pinoy Big Brother Gen 11’ Big Winner Fyang Smith, further solidifying her presence on the live music scene.
Her debut EP ‘Chloe Anjeleigh… For Real’ is now available on all major streaming platforms.
