Veteran showbiz columnist and host Cristy Fermin is ready to face the libel case filed against her by Kapuso actress Bea Alonzo, following the release of an arrest warrant by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 93.
In an interview with Abante Tonite Entertainment Editor Roldan Castro on July 30, Fermin responded candidly when asked about the court order. “Anak, ganu’n talaga! Ilalaban natin ito. Salamat, ingat, labyunak!” she said, affirming her resolve to defend herself in court.
The warrant, signed by Presiding Judge Cherry Chiara Hernando on July 21, cited “probable cause to hold the accused for trial.” Bail for each of the three respondents—Cristy, Rommel Villamor (aka Rommel Chika), and Wendell Alvarez—was set at ₱48,000.
Surprised by the warrant’s release, Fermin said even her legal counsel had not been informed of the development.
“Anak, wala akong alam, kelan lumabas? Pakikuha mo nga detalye? Maski abogado ko walang alam, eh,” she told Abante. She speculated that the recent typhoons may have delayed delivery of the court order.
Co-host Rommel also expressed surprise: “Di pa friend, ngayon lang din namin nalaman. Kalokaaaaa! Tagal na pala.” Wendell added, “Gulat nga kami biglang lumabas. Bukas ng umaga mag-bail.”
The libel case stems from allegedly “false, malicious, and damaging information” shared about Alonzo on Fermin’s online shows ‘Cristy Ferminute’ and ‘Showbiz Now Na’, including discussions around her called-off engagement with actor Dominic Roque, rumored tax issues, and a supposed labor complaint filed by a former driver.
Alonzo’s legal team previously asserted that the actress “asserted her right to proceed with filing these criminal cases against the individuals responsible for making all of these damaging statements against her.”
Fermin has maintained that their reports were done “fairly” and even advised the actress not to be “balat sibuyas” (too sensitive) when it comes to public issues.
Despite the legal challenge, Fermin remains composed and firm in her decision to face the case head-on: “Bukas na bukas din aasikasuhin namin ito.”
