Singer-songwriter and OPM icon Ice Seguerra opened up about his brief stint in government service, admitting that politics left him more frustrated than fulfilled.

In the latest episode of ‘Toni Talks’ with Toni Gonzaga on Sunday, August 17, Seguerra reflected on his time as chairperson of the National Youth Commission (NYC) in 2016.
The former child star revealed that what disheartened him most was the political maneuvering required to get things done.
“Ang hindi ko maintindihan, ‘yong kailangan mong mag-kiss ass do’n sa ibang politiko para lang mabigyan ka ng budget para sa public. Bakit? E, kaya nga tayo nasa public service para mag-serve ‘di ba?” Seguerra said.
Because of this, he decided to resign from the post less than two years into the position.
“It would have been good, it would have been fine siguro if I felt like something with purpose,” he explained.
Seguerra, who is married to actress and producer Liza Diño (former chairperson of the Film Development Council of the Philippines), said his original plan was to focus on education to better equip Filipino youth with tools they could use as they grow.
“Paano mo sila mabibigyan ng tamang tools kung ang dami pa ring kakulangan sa paligid nila?” he asked.
The singer-actor admitted he felt frustrated and even guilty about staying in the role when he could no longer give his all.
“I know, I can’t give my 100 percent anymore,” Seguerra said.
For Seguerra, politics demanded compromises he was not willing to make—leading him to step back and return to his true passion: music and the arts.
