Maine Mendoza has spoken up following the controversy sparked by her revelation in the ‘Tamang Panahon’ podcast that she once fell for her former love team partner, Alden Richards, during the height of ‘Kalyeserye’.

In a lengthy statement posted on X last Tuesday (August 19), Maine said she was surprised that her anecdote became such a big issue, stressing that her only intention was to look back on the AlDub phenomenon a decade later.
“I didn’t think the part about my story with Alden would spark controversy, let alone be a big deal, considering that everyone had already moved on from Kalyeserye and AlDub,” she wrote. “From the start, I hoped the clashes between fans on both sides would end… but apparently it still remains so.”
The actress explained that it was natural to mention Alden because he was a major part of ‘Kalyeserye’.
“There is no reason to exclude him from the story… it would have felt strange to leave him out. That said, there was no intention to provoke criticism or negativity towards him or anyone else. I was asked, I answered, and I shared a short anecdote,” she clarified.

Maine also lamented the constant comparisons between her and Alden, saying such debates only fuel hostility.
“Ten years on, we are all living the lives we chose, and I hope we can keep moving forward without nurturing hate—because what’s the point?” she said.
She likewise addressed the bashing on social media, urging fans not to waste their lives spreading negativity.
“Life is short. When our time comes and memories flash before our eyes, don’t let yours be filled with the moments you spewed negativity online. Ang dami pang pwedeng gawin sa buhay bukod sa pagiging tambay sa internet at pagiging hater,” Maine pointed out.
In her closing message, she appealed to supporters not to drag Alden into the issue.
“Please don’t throw hate on Alden. Regardless of what he meant by his words, it was really for the best for both of us and our situation at that time. Don’t read much into it. ☺️”
Despite the noise, Maine emphasized that “all is well among the dabarkads” and both she and Alden have long moved on from their AlDub days.
