Kapuso actress Carla Abellana found herself at the center of online chatter after she reposted an Instagram story about so-called “Nepo babies.”

Her post read: “Sana naging NBSB na lang din ako. Nepo Baby Since Birth.”
This immediately became a talking point among netizens, with some quick to call out the actress for supposedly forgetting her own roots in showbiz.
“Nakalimutan yata ni Carla na nepo baby rin siya. Maternal grandmother niya si Delia Razon, parents niya sina Rey PJ Abellana at Rea Reyes na lahat ay artista,” one netizen wrote. “She is talented, but she did benefit from the connections and name recall ng famous relatives niya.”
Another chimed in: “Wala namang masama sa pagiging nepo baby niya kasi nakita naman natin na she works hard and gives back, pero we can’t deny she’s one naman, if we talk about the actual definition.”
Still, many of Carla’s fans came to her defense, pointing out that she has built a career on her own merit despite her family background.
“Baka naman she meant ‘defected nepo babies’—yung walang napatunayan and just milking their parents. Kasi kahit nepo baby si Carla, she can stand by her own at may sariling pera siya sa pag-aartista,” one supporter explained.
Others argued that Carla was using the term in a broader political and social context: “Pretty obvious what she meant by ‘nepo baby’ in the context of what’s happening now, yung mga anak ng corrupt politicians at mga maanomalyang contractors sa mga government projects!”
Indeed, Carla has earned the moniker “Patron Saint of Concerned Citizens” online for her outspoken stance on accountability—whether in consumer complaints, public service issues, or social matters.
For many, that makes her different from other celebrities who prefer to stay silent. As one fan put it: “At least nagmamatyag siya. May pakialam siya sa mga katiwalian sa lipunan, hindi tulad ng ibang artista na dedma lang.”
