Kapamilya broadcast journalist Karen Davila minced no words in reacting to Senator Win Gatchalian’s revelation that the Philippines’ national debt has ballooned to ₱17 trillion—equivalent to ₱142,000 owed by every Filipino.

On Tuesday, September 3, Davila expressed her frustration on X (formerly Twitter): “Kawawa tayong mga Pilipino. Imbes na mapunta sa edukasyon, pagkain, libreng pagpapagamot sa ospital… ayun, ang budget nasa bulsa ng maraming pulitiko.”
She added in another pointed remark: “Ninanakawan na tayo, tayo pa ang nagbabayad ng ninakaw nila.”
Her post struck a chord online, with many netizens echoing the journalist’s outrage over ballooning debt, systemic corruption, and misplaced priorities in government spending.
Just days earlier, Davila also weighed in on the alleged “ghost projects” under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) that reportedly allowed some contractors to pocket billions from flood control projects.
“Sa ibang bansa, ang nagnanakaw sa gobyerno nakukulong o naghaharakiri. Sa Pilipinas, kina-iinggitan. Tama na,” she said in a separate post.
The veteran news anchor has consistently called out corruption in government, describing the cycle of theft and accountability avoidance as one of the nation’s deepest wounds.
