Kapuso rising star Shuvee Etrata has set the record straight after netizens accused her of supporting the ABS-CBN shutdown in 2020.

Old Facebook posts resurfaced earlier this month, including a meme she shared in May 2020 that appeared to make light of the situation. The meme featured Coco Martin and Vice Ganda with captions linking the shutdown to Pastor Apollo Quiboloy. Netizens assumed Shuvee was siding against the Kapamilya network.
But in her interview with ‘TV Patrol’s’ MJ Felipe, Shuvee denied ever supporting the closure. “I was really against the shutdown of ABS-CBN,” she said firmly. “In fact, I was a fan. I even tweeted po na, ‘ABS-CBN is a culture, you’re taking something from us, the people.’ Growing up, I’ve always watched ABS-CBN.”
She also shared that she had conversations with GMA Network executive Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes about her fondness for Kapamilya shows. “I even told her na ‘yung antenna namin dati inaayos pa para makapanood ng ABS-CBN,” Shuvee recalled.
Shuvee admitted she often shared memes for humor without fully realizing how they might be perceived years later. “Taken out of context talaga. I’ve always been a fan of Vice and the network,” she said.
The shutdown, ordered by the National Telecommunications Commission in May 2020 and later upheld by Congress in July that year, displaced thousands of ABS-CBN employees and significantly impacted the entertainment industry. Shuvee emphasized that as a viewer back then, she was saddened by the turn of events.
Now as a Kapuso star herself, Shuvee said she continues to carry lessons from that period. “I would really say this—I’ve made decisions before, but right now, you’re facing the better Shuvee. One who decides and thinks for the betterment of others,” she said.
