Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid went on a fiery tirade on social media following the devastating floods in Cebu caused by Typhoon Tino, blaming greed and government neglect for the destruction of the country’s natural defenses.

In a series of emotional Instagram posts last November 8, Regine shared a TikTok video compilation showing the widespread flooding in Cebu — cars overturned, homes submerged, and communities devastated. The video also linked the catastrophe to man-made causes such as quarrying, dolomite mining, and questionable flood-control projects.
The singer couldn’t contain her outrage, writing in all caps: “ANONG GINAWA NYO SA CEBU!!!!!!! Hindi bumabaha sa Cebu anong ginawa nyo!!!!! Sinira nyo ang kabundukan na siyang proteksyon natin sa bagyo at pagbaha!!!! ANO GINAWA NYO!!!!!!”
She continued, expressing disbelief and anger at those who allegedly allowed destructive projects to proceed unchecked.
“HINDI BUMABAHA SA CEBU!!!!!!! Sinira nyo ang napakagandang Cebu natin!!!! BAKIT PINAHINTULUTANG HUKAYIN ANG MGA BUNDOK? SINO NAGBIGAY NG PERMISO PARA SIRAIN ANG BIGAY SA ATIN NG DIYOS?! PURO KAYO LAGAY! IM SURE HINDI ITO DUMAAN SA MATINDING PAGSISIYASAT!”
Regine stressed that these calamities are not simply “acts of nature,” but results of human decisions and greed.
“Naiintindihan ko kailangan natin ang mga minerals na ito pero hindi nyo man lang inisip ang consequences nito. YAN DIN ANG GINAGAWA NYO SA SIERRA MADRE na humaharang at nagliligtas sa atin tuwing may malakas na bagyo!”
Her post ended with a powerful plea and a condemnation of government negligence: “TRABAHO NYO PROTEKTAHAN ANG ATING KALIKASAN. NAKAKAPAGLUMO DAHIL SA PERA SINIRA NYO ANG ATING BANSA. HABANG KAYO AY NAPAPASASA, MGA KABABAYAN NATIN NAGDURUSA. HINDI NYO LANG SINISIRA ANG KALIKASAN — PINAPATAY NYO KAMI!!!!!!! LORD PLEASE HELP US, WE PRAY FOR OUR KABABAYAN IN CEBU ”
In another post, Regine shared a clip of the late Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Gina Lopez, who famously fought against mining and environmental exploitation.
“If you kill the environment, you kill everything. One-third of the Filipino population depends on our natural resources,” Gina Lopez said in the video, warning that government officials who prioritize business over public welfare “lose the moral ascendancy to rule.”
Alongside the video, Regine delivered another blistering statement: “Sino ba ang nagbigay ng permiso butasin ang ating kabundukan, putulin ang mga puno, sirain ang karagatan!!!!!! SINO!!!!!! Hindi na natin maibabalik ito sa dating ganda. Sino pa ang magsasalba sa atin pag may bagyo?! SINIRA NYO NA LAHAT PARA ANO — SA KAYAMANANG HINDI NYO MADADALA SA HUKAY!!!!!!”
She ended with a direct message to government officials: “Sa lahat ng sangay ng gobyernong walang malasakit, ANG KAKAPAL NG MUKHA NYO! KAYO ANG MAY KASALANAN SA LAHAT NG NANGYAYARI SA PILIPINO!!!!!!!!!”

Her posts received thousands of reactions and comments from fellow celebrities and supporters.
Her husband Ogie Alcasid commented, “Nakakagalit. Nakakalungkot.”
Netizens likewise praised Regine for her courage in calling out those responsible: “It’s admirable to see celebrities using their platforms to speak out against the government. Regine, you have a large audience and significant influence. I hope more celebrities will be like you.”
“Appreciate you for raising your voice! Our leaders need to hear this loud and clear.”
This isn’t the first time Regine used her platform to express frustration over social and environmental issues. Just last month, she posted about her dismay as a taxpayer, saying,
“Nung bata ako, akala ko mahirap ang Pilipinas. Pero ngayon, hindi tayo mahirap — pinahihirapan tayo.”
With her passionate posts, the Songbird once again proves that her voice isn’t just for music — it’s also for truth, justice, and the environment.
