The original Bad Boy of Philippine cinema and now lawmaker of the land, Robin Padilla, and the studio that created his myth, Viva Communications, Inc., today inked a deal anchored on Viva’s multi-platforms, reinforcing their long-standing partnership first forged in the 1990s with hit after blockbuster hit and ultimately redefining the image of the Pinoy action star.
The tent pole of the deal is Bad Boy 3, the surprise third installment of what has turned out to be the definitive Padilla franchise, cementing his onscreen image as the street-talking, earthy hoodlum with a heart of gold. Bad Boy 3 yet again elevates the Pinoy action movie genre for this generation with more kinetic storytelling and a rock-solid cast of industry veterans and new faces.
The deal will have five Robin Padilla movies available in all Viva platforms, including streaming and free TV. These are: Bonifacio, Ang Unang Pangulo, Sa Ngalan ng Ama, Ina at Anak, 10,000 Hours, Turn: My Pledge of Love, and Alab ng Lahi.
Despite his commitment to the country as a public servant, Robin Padilla’s heart is also still very much into movies, and he thanks Bos Vic, as he is fondly called in the industry, for making him into the person he is.
“Napakalaki ng aking pasasalamat sa aking ama sa showbiz, kay Bos Vic, na siyang unang nakakita ng ating kakayahan sa pelikula. Hindi ako magiging si Robin Padilla kundi dahil sa kanya. Itinuturing ko na siyang aking ama,” said Sentor Padilla.
Mr. Vic Del Rosario, whose reputation as a starmaker in Philippine entertainment is unquestioned having built and grown his Viva empire now on its 44th year, only has good things to say about his “protege.”
“Si Robin is almost like a son to me, parang anak ko na yan. I was the first who saw his potential as a new kind of action star. When we did Bad Boy, it was an action star that the Pinoy moviegoer had never seen before and it remains as one of our most successful box-office hit. I am proud of what Robin has become and I fully support his decision to be a public servant. Pang-masa talaga si Robin,” Mr. Del Rosario said.
Robin Padilla proves in Bad Boy 3 that he still his trademark angas intact and the action moves to back it up. Age has definitely not slowed down the OG of the new Pinoy action movie.
