Veteran broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez sparked buzz on social media after openly admitting on-air that she was surprised to learn actor-politician Lito Lapid is still an incumbent senator.
The moment happened at the end of the December 4 episode of ‘Agenda’ on Bilyonaryo News Channel, during a discussion with co-hosts Pinky Webb and Williard Cheng about the controversial flood control projects currently under investigation by the Independent Commission for Infrastructures (ICI).
Webb mentioned that Lapid had issued a reaction to the ongoing controversy involving several senators. “Kagulat-gulat din ngayong araw, si Sen. Lito Lapid nagsalita,” she said.
This prompted an unfiltered reaction from Sanchez, who responded: “Ay nanalo pala siya? Nanalo? Ah… kasama pala si Sen. Lito… congrats, Sen. Lito, hindi ko napapansin, sa totoo lang.”
Her candid remark immediately drew laughs from her co-hosts—and later, thousands of comments online.
Cheng followed up with, “Sa sobrang bihira niya magsalita, kaya pag nagsalita siya, balita talaga.”
The hosts eventually greeted the senator on-air, with Webb saying: “Hello Sen. Lito, ngayon lang daw po nalaman ni Korina na senador po kayo.”
To which Sanchez replied with a laugh, “Ngayon alam ko na.”

Some also noted that Lapid has indeed kept a low public profile, which may explain the reaction.
Lapid, who placed 11th in the 2022 senatorial elections, has yet to issue an official statement regarding the matter.
