Karla Estrada reflected on how her family navigated the highly publicized breakup of her son Daniel Padilla and longtime partner Kathryn Bernardo in 2023, saying they deliberately chose silence, humility, and acceptance.

In an interview with Melai Cantiveros on the online show ‘Kuan on One’, Estrada was asked how the family handled what she described as a difficult and emotionally charged period.
“I think, maturity, humility, pagpapakumbaba at pagtanggap, acceptance,” Estrada said, explaining the mindset she kept during that time.
Estrada shared that Padilla personally reached out to her when the situation unfolded. “Tinawagan niya kasi ako, nagsabi siya na ganito ang sitwasyon. Ako ang una niyang sinabihan,” she recalled.
She said she immediately advised her son to respond with restraint, knowing the public reaction would be intense. “I said, nangyayari talaga ‘to, and tayo, lalabas tayo with all humility, acceptance, and of course, kailangan natin ng silence. Kasi hindi pwedeng… magiging circus ito,” she said.
Estrada added that she warned Padilla about the inevitable noise surrounding the breakup. “Magiging sobrang ingay nito, magwawala ang buong mundo, so, hindi tayo pwedeng sumakay. Tayong pamilya, hindi tayo magsasalita, wala tayong sasabihin. Respetuhin natin si Kathryn at ang kanyang family,” she said.
The actress-host emphasized that she did not interfere with the relationship, noting that the decisions ultimately belonged to the couple. “Tahimik lang tayo kasi hindi naman tayo perfect. ‘Di ba? Huwag tayong maingay kasi hindi ko relationship ‘yan. Kung relationship ko ‘yan, baka ako pa ang salita nang salita diyan sa labas,” Estrada said.

Padilla and Bernardo publicly confirmed the end of their 11-year relationship in November 2023, a development that sent shockwaves through fans of the once-dominant KathNiel love team.
