Celebrity mothers Mariel Rodriguez and Toni Gonzaga shared their firm views on love and relationships, saying women should never chase after men.
The discussion took place during the New Year episode of ‘Toni Talks’, where Toni was joined by her close friends Mariel and Bianca Gonzalez. The three reflected on the advice they would give their younger selves when it comes to matters of the heart.
Bianca admitted she now regrets the times she pursued someone who did not reciprocate her feelings.
“Ang ia-advice ko lang sa younger self ko, huwag mo nang habulin. Parang nahihiya ako sa sarili ko thinking now ‘yong ginawa kong paghahabol before trying to win person back. ‘Pag ginawa ng daughters natin ‘yon, ‘di ba?”
Mariel echoed Bianca’s sentiments, saying this is something she has already started teaching her own child.
“I always think that. How am I going to tell her? At this age, sinasabi ko na sa kaniya. Girls never chase after boys. Never.”
Toni strongly agreed, stressing that women should recognize their own worth.
“Tayo ang hinahabol. We are the prize. We are the trophy,” she said.
She added that love should not feel like something women need to work hard to earn.
“‘Yong ‘you have to earn the love,’ hindi mo kailangang i-earn ang love—”
Mariel finished the thought by emphasizing accountability on the part of men.
“Because they have to prove themselves to you.”
Bianca concluded by expressing her hope that her daughters will not repeat the same mistakes she made when she was younger, especially when it comes to chasing love that is not freely given.
