Fans of rising U.S.-based girl group KATSEYE are abuzz with speculation after its Filipina leader Sophia Laforteza was recently spotted spending time with Leon Barretto at Hong Kong Disneyland.
Photos and videos circulating online show Sophia and Leon together at the theme park, prompting questions from fans about whether the two are romantically involved. The sightings, however, also revealed that both were accompanied by their respective families during the trip.
Leon, the son of actress-politician Marjorie Barretto and actor Dennis Padilla, shared a series of photos on social media documenting the vacation. One image showed Sophia holding a Lotso bear while Leon had his arm around her, while another captured the two smiling as they walked around the park.
“Starting the year in the happiest place on earth with the people I love most,” Leon wrote in the caption, further fueling speculation among fans.
Other photos from the trip featured Leon with his family, including his mother Marjorie, siblings Erich Barretto and Dani Barretto, as well as Dani’s husband Xavi Panlilio and their children. Sophia was also seen joining the group on various rides and attractions.
Sophia, who is the daughter of actress-singer Carla Guevara Laforteza, has been gaining international recognition as the first Filipino contract artist under HYBE. KATSEYE previously visited the Philippines in 2024 for a fan showcase and is known for songs such as “Gabriela,” “Touch,” and “Gameboy.”
While many fans immediately “shipped” the two, others were quick to point out that Sophia and Leon have long been known as close friends. Adding to the online chatter was Sophia’s comment of “BFF” on one of Leon’s posts, which sparked playful reactions from fans.
Some netizens jokingly interpreted “BFF” as “boyfriend forever,” while others insisted it simply meant “best friend forever,” emphasizing that the pair are just friends and have known each other since childhood.
Photos of Sophia and Leon together during New Year’s celebrations in Hong Kong also trended online, further amplifying the discussion. Despite the buzz, neither party has confirmed any romantic relationship, leaving fans to continue speculating.
