Award-winning actress Nadine Lustre expressed firm support for Leni Robredo, saying the former vice president and current Naga City mayor remains the “best candidate for the presidency” should she decide to run in the 2028 national elections.

Speaking to members of the media on Tuesday, February 10, Lustre was asked whether she would back Robredo if the latter returns to the presidential race.
“Definitely, yes. No question about that,” Lustre said.
She added, “For me, she’s really the best candidate for the presidency. I supported her way, way back when she ran for the first time. So definitely, I would support her again.”
While making her position clear, Lustre emphasized that she would respect Robredo’s choice should the mayor opt not to pursue a national post.
“Sometimes, the best presidents are those who don’t want to run,” the actress said.
Robredo, who lost her 2022 presidential bid, has previously stated that it would be “unfair” to Naga City if she were to use her mayoralty as a “jump-off point” for a 2028 run.
Despite Robredo’s earlier remarks, several opposition figures continue to express hope that she may reconsider. Senator Bam Aquino earlier said many still want Robredo to run, though the decision ultimately rests with her.
Former senator and current ML Party-list Representative Leila de Lima also voiced optimism, calling Robredo “the most winnable” among potential opposition candidates should she enter the race.
Lustre and De Lima were both present at the House of Representatives on Tuesday for the filing of measures aimed at strengthening animal welfare enforcement and promoting plant-based health advocacy, underscoring their shared involvement in civic and advocacy initiatives beyond electoral politics.
