Filipino singer Jojo Mendrez, popularly known as the “Revival King,” has requested that his recent interview on the online talk show “DIREKwentuhan with Ronald Carballo” not be aired.
The episode, hosted by writer-director and producer Ronald Carballo, is scheduled to be streamed on YouTube, but Mendrez said he is concerned that parts of the conversation could negatively affect his reputation as an artist.
According to Mendrez, portions of the interview touched on sensitive matters about his sexuality and questioned how he earned the title “Revival King.” He said these topics made him uncomfortable and crossed personal boundaries.
The singer explained that he initially accepted the interview in good faith, expecting a conversation centered on his music career and his role in popularizing revived Original Pilipino Music (OPM) hits.
However, he claimed the discussion eventually shifted toward subjects he considered inappropriate.
Mendrez has since appealed to the program’s producers not to release the interview online.
“I respect interviews and media conversations, but there should also be respect for personal boundaries,” he said.
The singer expressed hope that the matter could be resolved amicably between both parties.
As of this writing, Carballo has not issued an official response to Mendrez’s request.
The show “DIREKwentuhan with Ronald Carballo” is known for its candid and often revealing conversations with personalities from the entertainment industry, frequently exploring both their professional journeys and personal experiences.
Despite the controversy, Mendrez said he remains focused on his music career and upcoming projects.
