Comedian and television host Vice Ganda has reaffirmed his support for Leni Robredo, saying he still hopes she might reconsider running for president in the 2028 national elections.

This comes despite Robredo’s earlier statement that she has no plans to seek any national position again and is instead considering a second term as mayor of Naga City.

“I am certain about myself that I will no longer run for any national position,” Robredo said in a previous interview.

Speaking to members of the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) on April 27, Vice Ganda admitted he remains hopeful.

“Well, I’m still rooting for Leni,” he said.

He pointed out that decisions to run for public office can evolve, especially when driven by a sense of service.

“Well let’s see. Marami namang nagsasabing kung sila lang, hindi na sila tatakbo. Pero dahil sa clamor at kagustuhan nilang makapagsilbi.”

According to the “It’s Showtime” host, leadership decisions go beyond personal choice.

“Kasi ang desisyon ng pagtakbo, ng pagiging Pangulo, hindi naman ‘yan desisyon para sa sarili mo, e,” he explained. “Kaya maraming tao na naiiba ‘yong desisyon nila kasi nare-realize din nila na this is not just about me.”

Robredo, who currently serves as mayor of Naga City after her term as Vice President, has maintained that her focus is now on local governance.

Her statement effectively shuts down, for now, speculation about a potential return to the national political stage in 2028.

While openly expressing support for Robredo, Vice Ganda reiterated that he has no plans to enter politics himself.

“Hindi siya bukal sa kalooban ko, hindi siya ang gusto ng puso ko,” he said in a previous interview.

He emphasized that public service would require full commitment.

“Kung pipiliin ko ‘yong public service, kailangan ko i-devote buong buhay ko sa public service.”

Despite this, the Unkabogable Star said he continues to speak out on social and political issues because of the platform he has.

“I’m given the platform, opportunity, responsibility to use my voice not just for myself,” he said.

“Hindi siya kaya ng konsensya ko… hindi rin kinakaya ng kaluluwa, konsensya ko ‘yung araw-araw na masang Pilipino na nakakausap ko sa Showtime tapos wala ako pakialam sa kanila.”

As of writing, Robredo has yet to respond to Vice Ganda’s renewed expression of support.
