After years of speculation surrounding their relationship, Coco Martin and Julia Montes have finally addressed persistent rumors that they are already married.
The longtime couple opened up about their relationship during their guest appearance on ‘Ogie Diaz Inspires’, where they were asked about their plans for marriage and the affectionate way they call each other “Nanay” and “Tatay”—terms that have fueled rumors that they have already tied the knot.
Responding to the question, Julia made it clear that she and Coco do not want to feel pressured into getting married.
“Ako sasagot. Kasi sabi ko sa kanya na, ‘Wag tayo magpa-pressure’ kasi siyempre una, bata pa naman kami ta’s naniniwala naman po ako na siyempre gusto nating basbasan.”
She explained that while they do hope to have their union blessed someday, they believe there is no need to rush.
“Pero at the same time kasi, marami pa kaming dapat gawin. Ayaw naming i-pressure ‘yung sarili namin na dapat ganito, dapat ganyan. Mas naniniwala kami na ito, maayos tayo. Nasa center natin si God then go with the flow muna. Walang pressure muna.”
Julia also revealed that she is the one asking Coco to postpone marriage whenever the topic comes up.
“Sabi ko nga sa kanya, ‘Sabihin mo na lang ‘pag may mga nagtatanong, ako naman talaga ‘yung nagpapa-hold, eh.’ Kasi, bata pa ‘ko. Ayoko naman na parang dahil nandito na tayo sa sitwasyon na ‘to. Dahil nasa tamang edad na tayo, enter agad sa ganu’ng factor.”
The actress admitted that seeing friends encounter marital problems after getting married has also contributed to her hesitation.
“May mga kaibigan din kasi kami na kung kailan nagpakasal, nagkaproblema. So, may fear akong ganu’n po. So, sabi ko lang sa kanya, ‘Okey naman tayo, ‘wag ka na munang makikinig sa iba.'”
She added that Coco often feels the pressure because of the public’s expectations after being together for many years.
“Kasi siyempre, lalaki siya. Siya ‘yung pine-pressure, eh. Dahil nga matagal na kami.”
Despite that, Julia said they are happy with the relationship they have built together and will only marry when they are both ready.
“Masaya kami sa kung ano pong meron kami at sobrang blessed kami sa relationship. And then, time will come naman, ‘pag ready na both, saka na namin gagawin.”
During the interview, Coco also shared that Julia was the one who first suggested having a prenuptial agreement should they eventually get married.
Julia explained her reasoning, saying she simply wants to protect everything Coco has worked hard to achieve.
“Kasi siyempre, sabi ko, kailangang ingatan niya kung ano ‘yung kanya.”
Coco added that Julia constantly reminds him to “trust no one,” particularly when it comes to finances.
According to the actor, Julia keeps detailed records of their household expenses and makes sure everything is transparent because she wants to safeguard the fruits of Coco’s hard work. The couple also agreed that they never want money to become a source of conflict in their relationship.
