Kapuso actress Klea Pineda is considering filing a complaint against a social media user who allegedly sent her a rape threat, saying she can no longer ignore the incident after receiving overwhelming support from her family and colleagues.
Speaking during the premiere night of the film ‘Open Endings’ on June 9, Pineda revealed that her family has been encouraging her to take legal action.
“Minsan lang ako magsalita sa social media. This time parang hindi ko na pinalagpas kasi sobra-sobra na ‘yon,” Pineda said.
“‘Yong family ko nagpu-push na kailangang may gawin kaming action about it,” she added.
The controversy began in May when Pineda shared a screenshot of a disturbing message she received from an anonymous account. While the actress noted that she has grown accustomed to criticism online, she said the message crossed a line.
“I’m already used to criticism being thrown at me at this point, but some people are getting way too comfortable with their words,” she wrote at the time. “Nobody deserves to be on the receiving end of jokes like this.”
Asked whether she plans to pursue legal action, Pineda said she hopes to move forward with a case.
“Sana, sana. ‘Yun ‘yung plan. Hahanapin natin ‘yung mga ‘yan,” she said.
The incident prompted support from her management, Sparkle GMA Artist Center, which released a statement condemning threats and hateful behavior directed at its artists.
The team behind ‘Open Endings’ also publicly expressed support for Pineda.
“We, at Open Endings, strongly condemn the anonymous threat sent to one of our actors, Klea Pineda,” the statement read.
“Threats of sexual violence are never a joke, never acceptable, and never something that should be normalized especially against members of the LGBTQIA+ community who continue to face harassment, discrimination, and violence simply for existing openly and truthfully.”
“Klea deserves safety, dignity, and protection. So does every queer person.”
Pineda’s co-star, Janella Salvador, also voiced her support and frustration over the incident.
“Mas galit ako. Mas galit ako kesa sa kaniya, siyempre,” Salvador said.
“Nobody deserves that, and it’s time na these people who feel comfortable saying things like that on the internet, hiding behind fake accounts, I think it’s time that they learn their lesson.”
Pineda stars in ‘Open Endings’ alongside Janella Salvador, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, and Leanne Mamonong. The film, which emerged as the top-grossing entry of the 2025 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, has now been released nationwide.
Reflecting on the film’s wider reach, Salvador expressed hope that its message would resonate with more audiences.
“We’re able to reach a bigger audience. Medyo nakakakaba siya, pero hopefully ma-send namin ‘yung message na there is an audience for this,” she said.
