Kapuso actress Kris Bernal candidly admitted that she once dreamed of reaching the same level of lasting success enjoyed by Kim Chiu, whom she considers one of her contemporaries in the entertainment industry.

During her guest appearance on the ‘Say Wuht’ podcast hosted by Gee Canlas and Abby Asistio, Bernal reflected on her showbiz journey and the aspirations she had early in her career.
Speaking about Kim’s enduring popularity, Kris said: “Si Kim Chiu kasi nakasabayan ko, halos sabay kami, gusto ko yung ganoon sikat eh.”
She added: “Yung hanggang ngayon sikat eh. Ang dami pa ring nangyayari sa career niya.”
Bernal rose to fame after winning the Ultimate Loveteam title alongside Mart Escudero in the fourth season of StarStruck in 2006. She later became part of the popular “AlKris” love team with Aljur Abrenica, starring in several television projects that helped establish her career in the industry.
A trimmed clip of the interview later circulated on Reddit, where viewers shared varying opinions about Bernal’s career and the entertainment industry’s handling of talent.
Some netizens argued that Bernal possessed the acting skills and screen presence to become an even bigger star, with several suggesting that her potential was not fully maximized.
Others also pointed to fellow Kapuso actress Julie Anne San Jose as another example of an artist they believe deserved wider recognition despite her talent.
Meanwhile, several commenters credited Kim Chiu’s early career momentum to the massive success of the “KimErald” love team with Gerald Anderson, which followed her breakout stint on ‘Pinoy Big Brother’. Many noted that Kim continued to sustain her popularity even after moving on to other projects and screen partners.

Despite admitting that she once aspired to attain Kim’s level of fame, Bernal emphasized during the podcast that she has no regrets about the path her life ultimately took.
Reflecting on her personal life, she said she considers herself fortunate, especially after marrying businessman Perry Choi.
“‘Pag naisip ko ‘yung family ko, ‘yung asawa ko, sabi ko swerte pa rin ako. Na-reach ko pa rin yung peak ng life ko, ng career ko, kasi may asawa akong ganu’n kabait.”
Today, Bernal says she feels fulfilled, balancing her career with family life while remaining grateful for everything she has achieved both on and off the screen.
