Television host and actress Ryzza Mae Dizon opened up about one of the most difficult periods in her career, revealing that she nearly lost her place on the long-running noontime show ‘Eat Bulaga.’
During her guest appearance on ‘Toni Talks,’ Ryzza recalled how their former management allegedly wanted to replace her with another child performer.
“Ako ‘yung top 1 po na sure na sure na gusto nilang tanggalin nung dati po naming company [kasi] mayroon pong bata na gusto rin ipasok,” she revealed.
The former child star admitted that the experience was painful, especially after seeing her airtime significantly reduced.
“Masakit po sa akin kasi ‘yung time na ‘yon po kasi ‘yun na po ‘yung once a week na lang ako pinapapasok. Tapos sa isang segment lang po pwede lumabas kasi ‘yon ‘yung instruction po sa kanila,” she said.
According to Ryzza, a replacement was already being prepared behind the scenes.
“Kasi nandoon na po ‘yung papalit sa akin, tini-train na po. Masakit talaga po kasi pinaghirapan ko ‘to tapos bigla-bigla na lang po aalisin na ganun-ganon lang,” she shared.
Despite the uncertainty, Ryzza expressed gratitude to veteran hosts Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon, collectively known as TVJ, for supporting her during that challenging time.
“Hindi naman po kasalanan ng TVJ. Ang pinagpapasalamat ko na lang po doon ay ang pinapasok pa po ako once a week,” she said.
“Sobra rin po talaga ‘yung pasasalamat ko sa TVJ kasi pinaglaban din po nila na hindi ako maalis. Grabe rin po ‘yung assurance na binigay nila sa amin, hindi lang po sa akin kasi parang lahat naman po kami planong alisin, pero ako lang po ‘yung sure na sure na talaga,” she added.
Before becoming one of the country’s most recognizable young television personalities, Ryzza came from humble beginnings in Pampanga. In the same interview, she recalled how determined she was to pursue her dream of becoming an actress.
Despite financial difficulties, her mother borrowed money so they could travel to audition for the ‘Little Miss Philippines’ competition.
After several rounds, setbacks, and even an elimination, Ryzza fought her way back through the wildcard round before eventually winning the title that changed her life. The victory launched her showbiz career and led to her becoming a regular host of ‘Eat Bulaga,’ where she would later become one of the show’s most beloved personalities.
