Bela Padilla opens up about personal struggles, says she is learning who she can truly trust

Actress Bela Padilla gave followers a rare glimpse into her personal struggles after sharing an emotional Instagram post about betrayal, trust, and finding the courage to speak up despite enjoying a successful year in her career.

In the post, Bela uploaded a video of herself working with clay while the indie folk song ‘Someday I’ll Get It’ by Alek Olsen played in the background. She revealed that she usually avoids listening to the song outside of work because of the emotions it brings, but decided to let herself process her feelings.

“I use this song for work, when I need to release big emotions at the end of the day. When I’m not working, I avoid it at all costs. But today… I let myself be upset.”

Despite describing 2026 as a year filled with blessings—including successful film releases, new projects, photoshoots, travels, nominations, and personal milestones—Bela admitted that difficult experiences in her personal life left her feeling that she had no right to express her sadness.

“Since the year started, I’ve received so many blessings… So when a few sad things happened, and with the backdrop of what’s been happening in our country, I felt like I had no right to complain.”

The actress went on to reveal that she had been learning, in painful ways, whom she could truly trust. Without naming anyone, Bela said she was hurt by people she had supported over the years who, according to her, chose not to stand by her when she needed them most.

“People I’ve uplifted over the years turned a blind eye when they could have easily spoken up and helped carry my burden, for once. That wasn’t an easy pill to swallow.”

Bela also explained why she has been less outspoken in recent months. She shared that she has begun finding her voice again after years of remaining compliant, acknowledging that asserting herself has surprised some people around her.

“Recently, I’ve started finding my voice. I’ve started pushing back. The problem with being compliant your whole life is that people get startled when you finally say ‘enough.'”

She concluded her message by encouraging those experiencing similar emotions to allow themselves to grieve and take things one day at a time, saying she has yet to figure everything out herself but remains hopeful for better days ahead.

Although Bela did not identify any specific person or incident that prompted her post, it has fueled online discussion. Some netizens have speculated that her message could be related to recent rumors surrounding her personal and professional life, including alleged friendship issues with fellow actresses Angelica Panganiban and Kim Chiu, as well as unverified reports about her behavior on the set of ‘Blood vs Duty’. However, Bela did not mention any of these rumors in her post, and there is no confirmation that her statement was connected to those speculations.

Professionally, Bela remains busy with several upcoming projects. She is set to make her theater debut in ‘People, Places, and Things’, a production by The Sandbox Collective, alongside Jake Cuenca and Gabby Padilla, with performances scheduled for August 15 and 16 at The Blackbox at the Proscenium Theater in Rockwell, Makati City.
