Former Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz has sparked online discussion after posting a critical comment about Sen. Pia Cayetano following the senator’s remarks on the National Bureau of Investigation’s (NBI) probe into the Philippines’ hosting of the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
Diaz reacted to a social media post featuring Cayetano’s statement made during a recent manifestation.
“You are KSP! Your voice is irritating grabe dapat ikulong itong taong ito! Madrama! Ugh,” Diaz wrote.
Although the comment is no longer visible on the post, screenshots circulated on social media, prompting mixed reactions from netizens.
Cayetano made the remarks as she addressed the ongoing NBI investigation involving the country’s hosting of the 2019 SEA Games, where her brother, Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano, served as chairperson of the organizing committee.
During her manifestation, the senator denied being overly sensitive to the issue but acknowledged that she and her colleagues knew when they were being singled out.
“Hindi tayo sensitive, sanay tayo dito. Pero alam din natin kung pinapatamaan tayo, ‘di ba? Alam natin ‘yon. Di tayo tanga.”
She also appealed to her fellow senators, saying: “I’m asking you, dear colleagues, ‘wag tayong papayag.”
Earlier, Cayetano also became emotional as she recalled that none of her former colleagues from the Senate majority bloc allegedly checked on her family following the shooting incident at the Senate building on May 13.
The NBI has maintained that its investigation into the 2019 SEA Games is based on documents and information it has gathered and is not intended to pressure senators or influence the ongoing impeachment proceedings. The agency has likewise said that no final findings of liability have been issued against any individual.
As of writing, Sen. Pia Cayetano has not publicly responded to Diaz’s remark, while the former beauty queen has not issued any further statement regarding her viral comment.
