Sarah Geronimo marked her 38th birthday with a heartfelt tribute to her father, Delfin Geronimo, releasing a special musical collaboration that also fueled speculation among fans that she has reconciled with her mother, Mommy Divine, after years of reported family estrangement.
As a birthday gift to herself, the Popstar Royalty unveiled a duet with her father of Jose Mari Chan’s classic hit ‘Refrain,’ which premiered on her official YouTube channel. The project, she said, was her way of honoring the man who nurtured her passion for music.
“Gusto ko ‘tong gawin because I can never thank my father enough sa buhay na ibinigay niya para sa akin. How he raised me. How he trained me.”
Sarah shared that while she continues her career in the entertainment industry, she wanted her father to know how much she appreciates his sacrifices and unwavering support.
“While I’m still here in the business and while he is still here with me, I wanted to make him feel na he is honored, appreciated, and remembered. Kaya gusto kong gawin ‘tong project na ‘to—to celebrate him, and of course, music… our love for music.”
In the more than nine-minute vlog, Sarah looked back on her childhood, recalling how she grew up in a home filled with music. She credited both of her parents for helping shape her into the performer she is today, explaining that while her father trained her vocally, her mother helped her understand the emotions and meaning behind the songs she sang.
“Teamwork” daw ang pagpapalaki sa kanya, with Daddy Delfin guiding her musically while Mommy Divine explained the lyrics and emotions behind every performance.
Sarah also spoke about her father’s dream of becoming a singer, saying he poured that passion into mentoring her.
“Si Daddy ‘yung talagang gustong maging singer, maging performer. At sa akin niya ibinuhos ‘yon… ‘Yun ‘yung naging nakatulong sa ‘kin bakit ko pinaniwalaan ‘yung sarili ko.”
The touching rendition of “Refrain,” said to be one of Delfin Geronimo’s favorite songs, received an emotional response from fans, many of whom praised the father-and-daughter performance.
Adding to the excitement was a behind-the-scenes video shared on Sarah’s social media, where eagle-eyed fans noticed a brief moment showing Sarah warmly greeting Mommy Divine with a beso.
