Social media personality Yiv Cortez of Team Payaman expressed support for Angel Locsin after the actress publicly questioned Sen. Robin Padilla over several of his political positions in an open letter posted on social media.
Angel ended her social media hiatus with a strongly worded message addressed to her former colleague, following Padilla’s statement during the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte that he is a communist.
In her post, the actress recalled Padilla’s stories about his younger years and his participation in the armed struggle, before asking why he remained silent when she was allegedly subjected to red-tagging.
“Ang tanong ko lang, nasaan ka nung panahong nirered-tag ako kahit alam mong hindi totoo? Actually, kasama mo pa nga at kachikahan yung mga nangre-red-tag.”
Locsin also questioned Padilla’s position on several issues, including his support for detained Kingdom of Jesus Christ founder Apollo Quiboloy and his stance on China, while urging the senator to remember that public officials owe their service to the Filipino people.
She ended her message with the appeal: “Tama na, Kuya. Gising na. Hindi pa huli ang lahat.”
Following Angel’s statement, Yiv publicly thanked the actress for speaking out.
“Salamat Ms. Angel Locsin. Magising na sana ang lahat.”
Yiv later responded to netizens who questioned why Angel supposedly remained silent on the alleged flood control controversy.
When one commenter asked why the actress had not spoken about the issue, Yiv replied: “Anong tahimik sa flood control? Sino bang mga senador ang di pumirma sa partial flood control report para sana matuloy na?”
Angel and Robin previously worked together on several television projects, including ‘Asian Treasures’ and as judges on ‘Pilipinas Got Talent’ alongside Freddie M. Garcia and Vice Ganda.
As of writing, Sen. Robin Padilla has yet to issue any public response to Angel Locsin’s open letter or Yiv Cortez’s remarks.
