TV5 is coming in strong for the second half of 2026, unveiling a fresh slate of entertainment, news, and public affairs programs led by the television reunion of one of the most beloved love teams of the 1990s—Jolina Magdangal and Marvin Agustin.
The longtime “MarJo” tandem will headline ‘Mommy Guard,’ an upcoming morning series set to premiere on TV5 in the last quarter of 2026.
The project brings Magdangal and Agustin back together on television nearly three decades after their pairing became one of the defining love teams of their generation.
But this time around, Agustin won’t be Magdangal’s only potential leading man.
‘Mommy Guard’ will give Jolina three possible romantic interests, with Dominic Ochoa and Cedrick Juan joining Agustin in the series.
The setup prompted a playful reaction from Magdangal during TV5’s media conference held August 6 at the MVP Studio in Mandaluyong City, where the network presented its upcoming programming lineup.
Indeed, ‘Mommy Guard’ appears poised to combine nostalgia with a new story designed for today’s daytime television audience.
The nostalgia surrounding the project was on full display during the presentation’s finale.
Magdangal took the stage to perform ‘A Million Miles Away,’ instantly evoking memories of her heyday as one of the biggest multimedia stars of the 1990s.
The throwback moment became even more memorable when Agustin joined her onstage, along with Ochoa and Roxanne Guinoo, giving audiences an early glimpse of the stars who will come together in ‘Mommy Guard.’
For longtime fans, seeing Magdangal and Agustin side by side once again was more than simply a preview of another television series.
Their partnership dates back almost three decades.
The two starred in the ‘Tameme’ episode of the twin-bill movie ‘FLAMES: The Movie’ in July 1997 before appearing together in ‘Kung Ayaw Mo, Huwag Mo’ in February 1998.
Their tandem was further cemented with ‘Labs Kita… Okey Ka Lang?’ in August 1998, which became one of the movies most closely associated with their love team.
Decades later, MarJo proved that the pairing still carried considerable nostalgia when they reunited on the big screen for ‘Ex Ex Lovers,’ released in February 2025.
Now, their reunion is moving to television through ‘Mommy Guard.’
While the return of Magdangal and Agustin is one of the show’s biggest selling points, ‘Mommy Guard’ won’t simply recreate the MarJo formula of the 1990s.
Magdangal’s character will find herself surrounded by three potential leading men—played by Agustin, Ochoa, and Juan.
The presence of Ochoa adds another layer of nostalgia to the project, given his own history as part of the generation of actors who rose to prominence alongside Magdangal and Agustin.
Juan, meanwhile, brings a different dynamic to the series as one of the acclaimed actors of a younger generation.
Also joining the ensemble are Susan Africa, Roxanne Guinoo, Pearl Gonzales, Amo Wilding, Nathalie Apollo, Patrick Ballesteros, Celyn David, Ge Villamil, Quinn Carrillo, and social media personality Ian Mark Kamangkang, popularly known as the “Pitik Queen.”
The cast brings together veteran performers, familiar television personalities, and newer names—reflecting the show’s attempt to appeal both to viewers who grew up with MarJo and a younger daytime audience.
‘Mommy Guard’ also represents another chapter in Magdangal and Agustin’s enduring partnership.
Nearly 30 years after ‘Tameme’ helped establish their tandem, the two are once again being asked to bring their familiar chemistry to a new story, this time as more mature performers whose careers and lives have evolved considerably since their teenage love-team years. For TV5, the reunion provides a strong dose of nostalgia as the network strengthens its programming lineup for the latter half of the year.
