Jollibee Group Earns Three INQ ESG Edge Impact Awards for Sustainable Manufacturing

Jollibee Group earned three recognitions at the 2026 Inquirer ESG Edge Impact Awards for sustainability initiatives led by its Manufacturing and Logistics team, proof that behind-the-scenes improvements can deliver real environmental impact while sharpening operational efficiency.

The initiatives of the Group’s Manufacturing and Logistics team received two Gold awards: one in the Waste Management and Responsible Consumption, Production and Manufacturing category, and one in the Energy Efficiency category. Both initiatives will advance to the regional competition this November. In photo (left to right), Inquirer Chief Operating Officer, Atty. Rudyard Arbolado, Inquirer President & Chief Executive Officer, Paolo Prieto, Jollibee Group Manufacturing & Logistics Engineering Services Senior Manager, Yeoj Jumaquio, Jollibee Group Manufacturing & Logistics Engineering Assistant Manager, Richard Monteclaro, Jollibee Group Manufacturing & Logistics Engineering Services Director, Ronald Samson, Jollibee Group Manufacturing & Logistics Engineering Services Head, Julius Leyba, Jollibee Group Global Corporate Communications Manager, Maureen Belmonte, and Inquirer Associate Publisher Juliet Javellana.

The Group took home Gold in Waste Management and Responsible Consumption, Production and Manufacturing for Zero Waste in Action: Transforming Manufacturing Through Circular Solutions; Gold in Energy Efficiency for Project Scale Up; and Silver in Water Management and Efficiency for Project Hugas.

“These results reinforce something we’ve long believed that sustainability and operational excellence are not competing priorities, but the same discipline applied consistently,” said Pepot Miñana, Jollibee Group Global Chief Integration, Sustainability, and Corporate Affairs Officer. “Through our Joy for Tomorrow agenda, we continue to invest in solutions that reduce our environmental footprint while strengthening the business itself. This recognition belongs to our Manufacturing and Logistics teams, who turned that principle into practice.”

Rethinking how resources are used

Project Hugas redesigned water-intensive processes across Manufacturing and Logistics replacing traditional crate washing with optimized pan-washing systems and adding demand-based water pressure controls, without compromising food safety or product quality. Since its 2020 baseline, the Group has cut water use by 301,000 cubic meters (roughly 120 Olympic-size pools) even as production rose 30%.

Project Scale Up brings proven energy-saving solutions to 10 commissaries and one logistics warehouse, focusing on equipment upgrades, utility optimization, and energy-efficient technologies. In 2025 alone, it cut electricity use by 1,470,146 kilowatt hours enough to power around 612 households a year despite the same 30% production increase.

Zero Waste in Action tackles waste inherent to food manufacturing and distribution, including plastic packaging and food waste, by reducing waste at the source and pushing operations toward a more circular model. From baseline, the company has reduced total waste by 8 million kilograms (equivalent to preventing around 800 garbage trucks of waste from going to landfill), achieving a 40% reduction despite a 30% increase in production volume.

Michael Ong, President of Jollibee Group Manufacturing and Logistics, stated: “We are proud that projects initiated and led by our commissary operations teams have enhanced operating efficiencies and reduced our environmental impact, without compromising food safety and quality. Although Manufacturing and Logistics functions are largely behind the scenes, their influence extends throughout the organization. This recognition validates our strategic direction and strengthens our commitment to continuously identify and scale effective solutions.”

Advancing Joy for Tomorrow

These projects support Joy for Tomorrow, the Group’s global sustainability agenda spanning Food, People, and Planet.

The recognitions build on the Group’s two Gold wins at the inaugural 2025 Inquirer ESG Edge Impact Awards, for its Renewable Energy initiative and the Jollibee Group Foundation’s Farmer Entrepreneurship Program. Earlier this month, the Group also ranked first among Philippine companies in the Brand Finance Sustainability Perceptions Index — for the second year running.
